Holidays in the Danger Zone: Places That Don't Exist

Please tune in for this incredible program tonight, the 20th of July, 2005 at 11:00pm on CBC channel 26.

Abkhazia, South Osetia, Transdniestria, Somaliland, Puntland, Taiwan... none of these breakaway states are recognized by the international community, yet many of them have their own armies and police forces. Some even issue postage stamps.

Customs and traditions are fanatically preserved, yet these self-declared states are also often violent, lawless places, still fighting for their independence and run by warlords. Simon Reeve, the charismatic author who first alerted the world to al-Qaeda, takes a tour. Produced by the BBC.
