The Somaliland Policy and Reconstruction Institute (SOPRI) announces the second Somaliland Convention. This year’s convention will be held in the Metropolitan Washington DC area on September 8-10, 2006.The Convention will bring together guest speakers from Somaliland including delegates from the Somaliland Government, House of Representatives, Upper House “Guurti”, Election Commission, and members of the Somaliland business community. Also attending will be delegates from the US Government, World Bank, National Endowment for Democracy, International Republican Institute, Carter Center, National Democratic Institute, and more than two dozen other organizations including US universities and the Somaliland communities in the US and Canada.

Over a thousand people are expected to attend this year’s Convention.This Convention will build on the successes of the first Convention held in Los Angeles last year. The remarkable political stability achieved in the country, the growing economy, and the possible solutions to the many challenges facing Somaliland will be discussed in depth. The Convention will provide participants an opportunity to find out about the “best-kept secret in Africa.” A country where self- reliance, can do attitude, liberty and democracy are the norm.
