Until recently, there has been a surge in malicious propaganda campaign against the state of Somaliland and its peace loving people by a hired iconoclastic hacker, who socially became an outcast in his own country. It is irony that once notoriously lucrative mercenary businesses in Africa that we have witnessed in the past, has been replaced with hired iconoclastic hackers ,who are eking out living in demonizing stable countries like the Republic of Somaliland. One of those hired hackers is a Turkish born Greek pettifogger, Shamsaddin Megalommatis.Before moving to the next few lines, I consulted with a renowned Ethiopian psychiatrist to give his thoughts on Mr.Megalommati’s general behavior, after carefully looking at his enlarged picture that was posted on American Chronicle. Dr.Mulegeta Kassahun gave the following diagnostic analysis in his sonorous voice, after carefully examining Mr.Megalommats’s picture in a meticulous professional manner:
“Behind a pair of spectacles, there are a pair of mischievously twinkling eyes prying for bewitching tricks; his artificial smile is the epitome of an unbridled character of a glib liar; and his wide oval shaped-face shows how he is ready to spew lies and calumnies; and his glaring canine-teeth protruding out from his wide open blaring mouth characterizes the kind of chronic lair he is. Look at him! He is laughing out loud like a demented jackal. I am afraid; he looks like someone who is about to suffer from cerebral palsy”
An Incorrigible Liar
Now, that we have read a brief account of what the psychiatrist has diagnosed, it has become apparently clear that Mr.Megalommates is one of those European ultra-Nazists, who under the mantle of journalism, are engaged in spewing their venomous poisons on Africans, with aim of exploiting the weakness of former disgruntled elements in order to fuel conflicts in war torn regions. Keeping in mind that he earned notoriety for his histrionic headlines, do we know what kind of a liar he is?
According to Dr.Kassahun, he is an incorrigible liar. But what kind of person is an incorrigible liar?
He is impervious to correction. Often as he may be caught in his fabrications, there is no reforming him - he goes right on lying despite the punishment, embarrassment, or unhappiness which his distortions of truth may visit upon him.
Greeks have a culture of telling lies. It is an age old addiction. It was the famous Greek philosopher and cynic Diogenes who went around the streets of Athens lantern in hand, looking for an honest man. This was over two thousands years ago, but I presume that Diogenes would have as little success in his search to day, given the emergency of chronic lairs, like Mr.Megalommates. When it comes to addressing chronic liars like Mr.Megalommate, Somalis have a saying: “Tell lies, but be close to the truth”
Lack of Understanding about Somali Culture
Lack of understanding the Somali psyche is one of main reasons as why Mr.Meglommates lost credibility among Somali readers. His continuous abusive headlines have been shunned and rejected by Somali internet readers. Somalis belong to a closely knitted unique society in the Horn of Africa. If the worse comes to the worst, they burry the hatchet in order to unite against their common enemies, putting behind their differences, as the case was when the tiny port-state of Djibouti was attacked recently by Eritrea. He forgets that Somalis, wherever they are, share common hereditary and cultural identity based on pastoral democracy, no matter to which government and state they belong. Somalis by nature do not condone insults and vitriolic attacks directed specially against women. It is an age old tradition that children, women and old men enjoy unlimited immunities from all kinds of violent harassments and insults. That is why General Barre’s wives and his much feared daughters who, wielded uncontrolled power and considerable wealth as “king makers” had never been so far condemned publicly by Somali antagonists, although they were part of a fascist regime that was synonymous with violation of human rights , such as mass killings and destruction of properties. His daily attacks and cheap insults on the highly respected personal character of Somaliland’s First Lady constitutes a gross violation of all kinds of journalistic code of ethics and much cherished Somali traditions as well. Even the British colonial administrators in the former Somaliland Protectorate, never had the temerity to disrepute the much cherished Somali cultural values, leave alone the Greek Nazist who was dragged into the fray by the Neo-Siyadists in Egypt, where he is being briefed on daily basis with false news about Somaliland Republic. Wishing bloodbath and disastrous conflicts for the Republic of Somaliland has become an integral part of his delirious dreams.
A One- track Mind
Mr.megalommatis has a Stone Age mindset of ancient Greek philosophy that negates all existing internationally accepted conventions stipulated under the United Nations (UN) Charter. In the mind of the Greek Nazist, the African Union is simply a rubber stamp organization that does not exist for Africans. He does not recognize the AU Charter, which above everything else, upholds the inviolability of the borders inherited from colonial powers, as the case is for Somaliland Republic. He categorically denies that, in essence, the AU was established to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of member states and to promote international cooperation within the framework of the Unites Nations. This is a man who does not have the slightest idea about Africa’s geographical structure whereby, several tribes of the same ethnic origins live in more than five separate different countries, each enjoying its citizenship in the country to which it legally belongs. A glaring example is, the Fulani and Hawsa in West Africa; the Massai, Afars and Somalis and East Africa; and Berbers in North Africa. He hates everything that does not fit his one-track mind.
His preference for hate over love, contempt over respect, clearly reflects what in fact he represents and what he stands for, as an ultra Neo-Nazist.He is violently against the established beliefs, revered traditions, cherished customs and all internationally accepted norms that was brought about by modern civilization. He has such an exaggerated all-inclusive zeal -insults and vitriolic attacks. He is simply a monomaniac in the true sense of the word.
An Iconoclast Hacker
Freedom of speech is generally acknowledged as a corner stone of democracy. Democracy is based on public opinion and freedom of expression. However, freedom of press does not give everyone a blank check for infringements of individual’s rights. This is a man who put his journalistic credibility on line.Credibility comes from accuracy in reporting stories, balancing stories from all sides and clarity in fact interpretation. When the message is accurate, balanced and clear, the readers will believe it. Credibility is journalism’s greatest asset. Education, information and entertainment are the three pillars on which journalism rests. Where other journalists educate, Mr. Megalommatis de-educates; where others inform, he misinforms; where others entertain, he hurls insults at peace-makers; and where others evoke peace negotiations, he fuels conflicts.
In my school days, anything that was not clear was referred as “it looks like Greek to me.” To day, “what looks like Greek” to me is, that the man who claims he has so many university degrees and other long titles is simply behaving like an ancient little Greek chaperone.
Many Somalis compare Mr.Megalommate’s daily unbridled inflammatory remarks against the state of Somaliland Republic to one of Somalia’s lunatic generals, who served as one of general managers of the then government owned national agencies, during the fascist regime of Siad Barre.
Major General Momammed Shareeco was one of those pissed off illiterate army sergeants in 1969, when General Barre seized power in a military coup. Two years later, to everybody’s surprise, he was prompted to the rank of major general. When he was appointed as the General Manager of National Theatre in Mogadishu in early 1980s, he issued a unilateral decree in which every employee of the agency that he led was coerced to sing with songs of his long titles. General Shareeco, who was one of General Barre’s cousins, had long titles such as, the General Manager of National Theatre, Major General, member of National Assembly, member of the Central Committee of Revolutionary Socialist Party, President’s Especial Advisor on Cultural Affairs, Poet and Composer.
One of Somaliland’s best known great poets, Yusuf Aden, who was fired after he refused to sing with General Shereco’s long titles, spontaneously breathed out the following poetic verses in Somali, which since then has become a household discussion among Somali intellectuals:-
Wax ma yaqaan wax yaqaan laga dhiga, waa wax ma yaqaan,
Wax yaqaan wax ma yaqaan laga dhiga, waa wax yaqaan:-
An ignoramus who has been passed off as a learned intellectual,Still remains as an ignoramus;
And a learned intellectual one, who has been passed off as an ignoramus,Still remains a learned intellectual.
What we are witnessing to day is another Greek Shareeco in media business. Both Shareeco and Meglommats have something in common. They share a culture of obsessions with long titles by lying through their teeth.
In conclusion, if his invidious titles chosen for him by disgruntled former Barre’s officials based in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, serve any guide, then, from today onward, he should be despised by all Somalis as” a good- for-nothing” cheap liar, who has no knowledge about Africa’s historical facts.What the Greek Nazist has forgotten is that Somaliland’s vibrant democracy is not something hidden from the international community. The world’s most powerful nations have fully embraced Somaliland’s overall achievements as a young nation that has embarked on democratic transformation. The world’s leading nations are omnipresent everywhere, and therefore, do not need advice from outcast hackers like Mr.Megalommatis.It has now became crystal clear to every body, what the cock-eyed liar craves at the moment is only to satisfy the Neu-Siyaadists who bankroll him, cashing out the money they stashed away from national treasury in the past.Mr.Megalommatis’s monomaniacal outcry that Somaliland is facing its doomsday is simply a far cry from reality. As Somali saying goes, “If you do walk in the clarts, you will come home with clarty shoes.” Make no mistake! Somaliland’s political and moral choices will never be changed, came what may. Bearing in mind Mr.Megalommatis’s trash that does not color much, one should not fight fire with fire. Let blithering idiots blither forever. Go hang forever, you petty hacker! Somaliland will remain as Africa’s success story.
